Town Government

Town of Bayfield is a statutory municipality, incorporated under State of Colorado law in 1906. Statutory towns and cities follow State law for governmental structure, taxation, and administrative organization.

More information about the structure of statutory municipalities can be found online: 2018 Colorado Local Government Handbook

Bayfield is governed by a board of six trustees and a mayor. The Town Board is the governing and legislative body for the Town and is responsible for adopting laws, ordinances, and resolutions as deemed necessary.

Bayfield's Planning Commission reviews planning and zoning issues for the Town and makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees on ordinances and resolutions regarding planning, zoning, annexation, and building codes.

Trustees and commissioners do not have offices at Town Hall, though they may be reached through Town Hall staff.
