Stormwater

Stormwater is rainwater or melted snow that runs off streets, lawns and other sites. When stormwater is absorbed into soil, it is filtered and ultimately replenishes aquifers or flows into streams and rivers. The Town of Bayfield does NOT treat stormwater before it discharges into the Los Pinos River.

The Town of Bayfield utilizes the 2017 Bayfield Infrastructure Design Standards to determine how new stormwater facilities need to be designed and constructed.

The 2014 Bayfield Master Drainage Plan analyzed the Town’s existing storm drainage infrastructure and provided planning recommendations for improvements to the existing storm drainage infrastructure to meet the Town’s adopted Infrastructure Design Standards.  As this document is outdated, the Town is contracting with SGM Engineering to provide and updated Stormwater Feasibility Study in 2023.

The Town is also looking at how to pay for future stormwater projects and is considering a Stormwater Enterprise Fund.  This was discussed at the March 21, 2023 Board of Trustees Meeting.  Here is a link to that agenda.
